I started my level 4 apprenticeship with Bohemian Accountants at the end of February this year, I’ve got another year or maybe two years left to go, it depends on how much work there is to do.
I always wanted to do accountancy. I was studying towards my accountancy qualification, and I thought I’ve got so much free time. I needed money and experience so I started looking for apprenticeships, which turned out to be perfect. I knew about other options, but they are so expensive, I knew I wouldn’t be able to get all that money to go to University, and I didn’t want any debt. I wanted a cheaper option, but I didn’t know if I’d have the time or the patience to work and do a qualification, but an apprenticeship did both!
As an accountant, I do so many things, but I mainly look after tasks around invoicing and bank statements. I have a fair amount of responsibility that has increased the longer I have been in the business. I’m am treated fairly and equal to my colleagues, and that is important to me. An apprenticeship has meant that I know have learnt a lot, like how accounts are prepared so if I want another job, I have real experience. My apprenticeship is great because I’m busy all the time, previously when I was just doing my accountancy qualification, I was bored during the day and wanted to do something else. Now I am doing lots, getting paid, whilst gaining experience and a qualification.
When I was looking for a job, for about a week I sent CV’s everywhere, I went online and they told me I wouldn’t get a job because I didn’t have much experience. I went on to so many online application websites and came across GetMyFirstJob. It was so easy to use; it was a piece of cake really. I forgot I applied, to be honest, but a few weeks later GetMyFirstJob called me about this job, I applied and I got it! I’d recommend it to anyone!
I enjoy my apprenticeship so much, work hard and you’ll get what you want. If you want to earn money then you should do an apprenticeship, but even then, you need to remember it is valuable, it’s not brilliant pay all the time but the experience and qualification you get are valuable enough.
